The Mill Village Farms program received a 2015 GWG grant of $61,000 to provide stipends for at-risk youth and their adult supervisors.
Founded in 2012, Mill Village Farms hires youth who attend weekly classes as they plant, tend, grow and market food in Greenville County’s food deserts.The youth work alongside adult supervisors who teach and mentor them. MVF has expanded to 110 acres that include two urban farms,two rural farms and a rooftop farm in downtown Greenville, So far they have employed and trained over 30 youth in basic job skills, sustainable agriculture and entrepreneurship. In 2013 they launched the “Good to GoMobile Market”, which delivers fresh, local produce to low-income communities.
